Oliver Rick recently released a new book with co-author Dr. Longxi Li —Global Sports and Contemporary China: Sport Policy, International Relations, and New Class Identities in the People’s Republic.
This book examines the formation of a globally oriented sports system in China from the beginning of the reform process in 1978 to the present, with a particular focus on the period between the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2022 Beijing Olympics Games. It analyses how this system has shaped domestic social class dynamics and the role of sport in international Chinese state politics.
